January

Sch. General Grant wrecked off Long Harbor, N. F. Crew saved after six hours exposure and suffering.

Sch. Mary Burnham lost off LaHave Bank. Crew of eleven men lost.

2nd - Sch. May Queen wrecked on Coney Island. Crew saved.

23rd - Sch. Eliza Jane wrecked on Jig Rock, near Shelburne, N. S. Crew saved.


March

13th - Alphonso Babson and Gorham Parsons, dory fishermen, drowned off Folly Cove by the swamping of their dory. Each left a family at Pigeon Cove.
Capt. Daniel M. Gray, washed overboard from sch. B. F. Somes on Georges, leaving a widow and child.

18th - George B. Michael and William Burnham capsized their dory and were lost from sch. Eben B. Phillips.

26th - John Kennedy, knocked overboard from sch. Adelia Hartwell while coming in from Georges. Unmarried.

27th - John Daniels and Edward Spencer, of sch. Frederic Gerring, Jr. , drowned on the Banks by the swamping of a dory. Unmarried.


April

Sch. G. P. Pomroy three masted schooner lost on passage from Brunswick Ga. for Bath, Me with ship timber lost in gale. Captain Francis H. Bryant and crew lost.  About two-thirds owned in Gloucester and one-third in Manchester, Beverly, Boston and Salem.

12th - James Murphy of sch. Eben Parsons, lost by the swamping of dory on Western Banks. Unmarried.
Edward Coles and Howard Powers of sch. Edward E. Webster, upset in dory on Grand Banks and drowned. Unmarried.


May

Neil McPhee, knocked overboard from sch. Highflyer in New York harbor. Unmarried.
Clara Chapman lost at Sandy Point, crew saved.

7th - Andrew Anderson, engaged in Shore fishing, drowned off Eastern point while hauling trawls. Left widow and five children.

21st - Harry Richardson, of sch. Lizzie K. Clark, drowned on the Banks by capsizing of dory. Left widow.

30th - Lemuel Parsons and John Holmes, of sch. Corrina H. Bishop, drowned by capsizing of dory on Grand Bank.


June

3rd - Neil Johnson and Charles Kulvert, unmarried, of sch. Marion, capsized in dory on Grand Bank and drowned.


July

1st - Sch. Ann Maria engaged in Georges fishery wrecked on Newburyport bar. Crew saved after considerable peril.


August

17th - Sch. Belle employed in Shore fishery, wrecked on Duck Island near Portsmouth, N. H. Crew saved


September

22nd - Walter H. Merchant lost overboard from sch. Etta Gott in Bay of St. Lawrence

26th - Adolph Jackson and Matthew Huntwell of sch. Andrew Leighton, drowned by capsizing of dory on the Banks, unmarried.


October

6th - Manuel Veada, knocked overboard from sch. Dictator on passage to Georges. Unmarried.

10th - Harry Miller, of sch. Eben B. Phillips, drowned at Babson's wharf while attempting to enter dory to board his vessel. Unmarried.


November

2nd - Hans Antone Olsen lost overboard from sch. Arizona

4th - Daniel McDonald and Albert Mizner, of sch. G. P. Whitman, capsized in dory on the Banks. Unmarried.

6th - Capt. Joseph Campbell, killed by falling from aloft on board sch. Gertie E. Foster on the Banks. Left a widow and three children.
