Body of William Conery, one
of the crew of the sch. L. J. Clark was found in the mud at
Tredrack's wharf at Portsmouth.. There were some cuts upon his body and a severe gash upon
one side of the head which at first let to suspicion of four play, but an examination
showed that the wounds and abrasions were probably caused by striking some hard substances
in falling from the wharf, and is thought that he fell overboard while intoxicated and was
drowned. He was about thirty-three years of age, unmarried, and belonged in Black Hills
Falls, Me.
